Sarah D. Haskell-Fowler
Weaver
AIE;CAP;AH
Sarah Haskell, weaver and artist-in-residence, is a seasoned educator who easily communicates with people of all ages and abilities. Using readily available, inexpensive materials and equipment, she teaches how weaving is a language that can be used to express feelings, thoughts and stories. Weavings, from large collaborative tapestries to small personal weavings, have many curriculum connections extending from history to language arts and beyond. Residency activities range from in-school presentations and hands-on workshops, to community-based collaborative tapestries, adult-teacher workshops, and lecture demonstrations. Sarah is a faculty member of the Heartwood College of Art, Kennebunkport, ME, a member of the Maine Arts Commission Roster, the VSA NH and ME Roster, and the Connecticut Young Audiences Roster.
Through making her own art, she knows first hand that the creative process is good for your health.
As an educator, Sarah believes that people of all ages and abilities are capable of having a positive art experience. Her job as a teacher is part coach, part cheerleader, and part patient witness. Sarah offers a creative experience that is easily repeated with widely accessible materials/equipment and simple techniques.
Recent projects in health care and with the elderly include the Mandala Community Weaving, Community Tapestries, and Individual Woven Amulet Pouches. Sarah has been an artist in residence in many New England schools, communities, prisons and hospitals and is on the faculty of NH Institute of Art, Manchester, NH.
