Dan Hurlin is a theatre/performance artist who splits his time between New York City and New Hampshire. He has written and performed over a dozen original works since 1985 including his Bessie Award winning puppet piece "Every Day Uses for Sight Nos. 3 & 7," his Obie Award winning "A Cool Million," and "NO (thing so powerful as) TRUTH", a solo inspired by the life of Manchester Union Leader publisher William Loeb. He developed a Bunraku style puppet piece, "Hiroshima Maiden" which premiered at Arts at St. Ann's in New York City, during the January 2004 season. For fifteen years he was artistic director of Andy's Summer Playhouse in Wilton, a theatre by and for children, and has taught in colleges and universities including Princeton, Bowdoin, and Bennington. Currently, Dan teaches performance art, dance composition and puppetry at Sarah Lawrence College. He was the recipient of artist fellowships from the NH State Arts Council in 1990, 1992 and 1996, received a 1993-94 solo theatre artist fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, and was a 2002 Guggenheim Fellow, and is the recipient of the 2004 Alpert Award in the Arts for theatre. He was named a Lifetime Fellow by the NH State Arts Council in 2005.
