John Perrault
Balladeer / Poet
TA
John Perrault is a ballad singer, poet, and songwriter. John occasionally performs with Mike Rogers who is a virtuoso harmonica player. Together, they mix ballads, blues, rag, and rhythm with poetry, history and humor. As evidenced by "Ballad of Louis Wagner" (Isles of Shoals murders-from his acclaimed NH album) and "Ballad of the Squalus" (sinking of Portsmouth sub), John's material is rooted in New England themes and legends. His latest CD, Rough Cuts, featuring story songs backed by country finger style guitar and harmonica, was a finalist in the 1998-99 Crossroads Music Awards. John's poetry has appeared in The Christian Science Monitor, Commonweal, and other publications. John's books include The Ballad of Louis Wagner and Other New England Stories in Verse (Peter Randall Publisher, 2003), and his poetry collection, Here Comes the Old Man Now (Oyster River Press, 2005). John was Portsmouth Poet Laureate 2003-2005.
