Emile Birch
Sculptor

Emile Birch is a professional sculptor whose public artworks have been commissioned by many businesses and communities throughout New Hampshire. Recent sculptures include: The Eternal Shield, commissioned by the New Hampshire Law Enforcement Officer Memorial Committee, which is the first sculpture in over 100 years to be sited on the State House grounds in Concord; and a bronze sculpture of "Pollyanna" for the community of Littleton. Emile has exhibited his sculpture in galleries and at festivals throughout New England. Emile is a teaching artist of excellent reputation who has completed many successful residencies in schools, hospitals, state and private mental health institutions, prisons and youth detention facilities throughout New England. He is one of the founders of VSA New Hampshire and served on its board of directors for eight years. His most recent residency projects including staff, residents, family members and patients in hospital settings include the C. Everett Koop Institute wall relief sculpture “Community” in the small rotunda at the Dartmouth Medical Center and the creation of large indoor and outdoor installation sculptures, to celebrate the idea of flight, for the First Annual Kite Festival at the Crotched Mountain School. He is a master community artist skilled in engaging people of all ages and abilities in a wide variety of projects. Emile is involved as an artist in residence with the regional arts and healing initiative.

Programs offered: Sculpture workshops; lecture-demonstrations; master classes; school residencies; assembly presentations; community projects; slide presentations and talks to community/municipal organizations; theatrical sculpture design and set design; day programs; multi-day programs; bedside programs; classes/workshops; programs for staff

Populations served: All, including people with disabilities and criminal offenders

Availability: All areas, year round

Fees: School Residencies: $350/day; Community Residencies: $400/day; Lecture-Demonstrations: $500/day; Single Workshops/Classes: $450; additional travel fee
