Garry Kalajian
New England Blacksmithing

Description:
Garry Kalajian has been a full time blacksmith since 1993. He specializes in traditional hand forging and forge welding techniques. His traditional forms include hardware for doors, light fixtures, fireplace andirons, screens, and utensils and items for kitchen use. Kalajian he is a resident artist at the Holderness School and an instructor at Sanborn Mills Farm in Loudon, N.H., an organization devoted to teaching 19th century skills. Kalajian has been awarded two Apprenticeship grants from the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts to serve as a master artist for an apprentice. He frequently demonstrates at public events using a unique portable forge he has designed for this purpose.

Preferred activities and age groups: Public demonstrations for all ages. If a suitable studio exists, hands-on workshops for small groups of high school students to adults.

Availability: Statewide year round.
